As educators and parents, we understand the importance of fostering a love for science from an early age. That's why we've developed this comprehensive curriculum, perfect for setting up dynamic science corners in classrooms or homeschool environments.

What is STEAM?
This approach promotes SCIENCE and project-based learning, cultivating a holistic understanding of the world.

· S Science
· T Technology
· E Engineering
· A Arts
· M Math

Why STEAM and not STEM?
In early years education, we prioritize hands-on projects, including arts and crafts related to science. That's why we've incorporated an "A" for Arts into the traditional "STEM" (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). By including the arts, we support creativity and encourage a well-rounded approach to learning.

What's Included EVERY WEEK:

  • Weekly Lesson Overview Theme: Each week introduces an exciting theme designed to ignite curiosity and exploration.
  • Mini Lesson Guide: Dive deeper into each theme with our detailed lesson guides, offering step-by-step instructions for engaging activities.
  • Real Photo Inspiration Card: Bring science to life with captivating real-life images that stimulate conversations and provoke questions. Follow up with our "I See, I Think, I Wonder" worksheet to encourage critical thinking.
  • Driving Question Card: Propel scientific inquiry with thought-provoking questions that guide the exploration of each week's theme.
  • Extra Flashcards, Worksheets, and Activity Pages: Enhance learning with supplementary materials that reinforce key concepts and provide additional opportunities for hands-on engagement.

The Science Corner:
Central to our curriculum is the concept of a science corner, a dedicated space where young learners can immerse themselves in the wonders of science. Utilizing a TUFF TRAY setup, our curriculum transforms any classroom corner into a dynamic laboratory of exploration.

Why TUFF TRAY?

Our TUFF TRAY offers a versatile platform for a wide range of hands-on activities. Its large surface area provides ample space for experimentation, while its durable construction ensures longevity even in the most active learning environments.

52 Weeks of Exploration:
With a full year of planned activities, you'll have everything you need to keep young minds engaged and curious week after week. From exploring the mysteries of the natural world to delving into the realms of technology and engineering, each week offers a new adventure in learning.

Low Prep, High Engagement:
We understand the demands of busy educators and parents, which is why our curriculum is designed for minimal prep and maximum engagement. Simply print, set up, and watch as young scientists dive into the wonders of the world around them.

Lesson Example 1: Exploring Apples

In this engaging lesson, students delve into the fascinating world of apples, exploring their unique properties and discovering the science behind their existence. Here's how the lesson unfolds:

  1. Introduction to Apples: Begin by introducing students to apples, discussing their various colors, shapes, and sizes. Show real apples and encourage students to observe closely, noting the differences and similarities among them.

  2. Apple Exploration in the TUFF TRAY: Set up the TUFF TRAY with a variety of apple-related materials, including different types of apples, apple seeds, and apple prints. Encourage students to explore the materials, using their senses to observe, touch, smell, and even taste the apples.

  3. Hands-on Activities: Provide opportunities for hands-on exploration, such as cutting open an apple to observe the star shape and seeds inside, using small tongs to pick up and count apple seeds, and dipping apples in paint to create apple prints on paper.

  4. Discussion and Reflection: Facilitate group discussions about what students have observed and learned about apples. Use the real photo inspiration card featuring apples to spark conversations and encourage critical thinking. Prompt students to complete the "I See, I Think, I Wonder" worksheet to further deepen their understanding.

  5. Extension Activities: Extend the learning by incorporating additional activities, such as making applesauce or conducting an experiment to see how different types of apples float or sink in water. Encourage students to record their observations and findings in their STEAM journals.

Lesson Example 2: Pet Rock Exploration

In this hands-on lesson, students explore the concept of pets and learn about the responsibilities of pet ownership through the creation and care of their own pet rocks. Here's how the lesson unfolds:

  1. Introduction to Pets: Begin by discussing different types of pets and the responsibilities involved in caring for them. Show pictures of various pets and encourage students to share their experiences with pets, if any.

  2. Rock Exploration in the TUFF TRAY: Set up the TUFF TRAY with a variety of rocks of different shapes, sizes, and textures. Encourage students to explore the rocks using their senses, observing their colors, textures, and weight.

  3. Designing Pet Rocks: Provide students with materials to design and decorate their own pet rocks, such as googly eyes, pipe cleaners, and markers. Encourage creativity as students bring their pet rock creations to life, giving them names and personalities.

  4. Pet Rock Care: Discuss the responsibilities of pet ownership, including feeding, grooming, and providing shelter. Encourage students to create a "care plan" for their pet rocks, deciding how they will take care of them and what they will need to thrive.

  5. Reflection and Sharing: Facilitate a reflection session where students share their pet rock creations and discuss how they will care for them. Use the real photo inspiration card featuring pets to spark conversations about the importance of responsible pet ownership.

  6. Extension Activities: Extend the learning by incorporating additional activities, such as creating a pet rock habitat or writing a story about their pet rock's adventures. Encourage students to document their experiences and reflections in their STEAM journals for future reference.
